What a nice little find. I decided to watch it from word of mouth from a message board I visit and I thought “I like video games” and “I like reality shows” so this show must be good.
And well it isn’t the best reality show in the world but I was very surprised at the high production values and that SciFi would actually play this.
So last Sunday there was a marathon of the first seven episodes and then last Tuesday was the final episode pitting Mark against creepy eye Robert.
The show was surprisingly well put together and well edited. Plus the elimination Samsung stadium and the isolation chamber looked bad ass.
Now I used to really be into video games and have kind of fallen out of them in recent years besides some Mario so I haven’t actually played any of these games besides DDR. So I was always more intrigued by the real life challenges then the actual playing of the games. I was also more intrigued by the politics going on inside the loft.
The producers put together a great cast of weirdos, hot girl gamers, and even tossed in a few people that probably shouldn’t have been there. But they had clashing personalities and reality shows work best when people fall in love or hate each other really quickly. Ciji and Dante are so weird and it is even more gross that they even hooked up.
The best two contestants were Alyson, who got taken out early, and Amy. Amy was never actually excellent at any of the games but she was like the den mother and ultimately beat out the others when it counted (including her great skills in paintball). She was just older and wiser and
Unfortunately the suckiest episode was the Gauntlet. They could have easily stretched this show out to 9 or 10 episodes but they decided to eliminate four people in an hour including the amazing Amy.
So overall a nice quick show to watch and I would like it if there was a second season.
